you heard it here first folks: the reason the brits travel on the left side of the road is because britain is still a feudal society where you can be stabbed at any time or stab anyone at any time. further proving my point about britain. uncivlized stabby nation. terrifying!

@moonlighttan @nerozane XD

*correct side of the road

There’s a myth that I’m not sure is true but I dearly hope is true that Americans hold their forks in their right hands and knives in their left (unlike Europeans, who do the reverse) because if they didn’t stop holding their knives in their right hands during the American Revolution, loyalists and revolutionaries would keep stabbing each other during meals.

Wait WHAT?!

“Americans hold their forks in their right hands and knives in their left“

is this ture?!

Yep. Americans by and large use the fork in the right hand, tines up, while Europeans by and large use the fork in the left hand, tines down.

There are actually movies from the forties where American spies have their cover broken because they use the fork in the wrong hand.

“A woman from the audience asks: ‘Why were there so few women among the Beat writers?’ and [Gregory] Corso, suddenly utterly serious, leans forward and says: “There were women, they were there, I knew them, their families put them in institutions, they were given electric shock. In the ’50s if you were male you could be a rebel, but if you were female your families had you locked up.”

I’m just frozen. Absences of women in history don’t “just happen,” they are made.
