peggy: i’m so worried the kids might get polio this summer

steve: polio–

I recommend people to read Captain America: Man Out of Time, it covers the first Avengers story with Cap after he wakes up from the ice. He misses his life in the 40′s, he wants to go back, etc… At one point they fight Kang the Conqueror and Steve gets sent back to V-Day after the Allies won in Europe. At first he’s happy but the reality of him romanticizing his own era due to nostalgia starts hitting him. He was already in a more advanced and, while not perfect, a more accepting time and him having to come back to a time where racism and sexism were worse, where medicine and technology weren’t as advanced, and everyone telling him “Yeah we won! The war is over! Time to rest!” it really leaves him fed up and unsatisfied. He also starts feeling like an outsider in his own time and i the end he decides to do something to go back to the future.

The last pages of that story have Steve writing in his journal about how living in the past is tempting but that it’s where fossils come from and that “there’ll always be something to fight for” so he decides to look ahead instead of back.

That whole story was basically the antithesis of Steve’s ending in Endgame.

Remember that scene in Winter Soldier when Sam’s all “you must miss the good old days” and Steve responds by actively dispelling the romanticizing of the past by pointing out that hey, now people aren’t dying horribly of polio

You’d think the directors and screenwriters of Endgame would have remembered that, CONSIDERING THEY MADE THE WINTER SOLDIER FILM

#Sam Wilson: Sassy Bitch Graduate 2k14

I always kinda fixate on how Sam’s gaze lingers condescendingly on Steve after he delivers this line, and it’s produced this headcanon where after the VA scene, Sam and Steve go out on a date and hit it off really well and go back to Sam’s place and bang, but Steve wakes up while Sam is still making breakfast and is like “I’m sorry to do this, but I have to go” and is apologetic and cringe-y and Sam kinda watches him dubiously with his spatula in hand but is like “alright, man, see you around.” Whether Steve left because he got cold feet or a mission kinda varies in my head. But it makes Sam’s “if u EAT breakfast u fuckin shit” face in this scene (and the startled but slightly reserved way he initially answers the door) funnier to me.

Like I have not been able to stop thinking about this????

It… also kinda explains Steve’s little “okay I deserved that” head bob?

also explains

Fuck, this is all I’ll be able to think about now.

THANK YOU.

Everyone writes Sam as the replacement Bucky but guys, Bucky is trying to go into hiding because there are now TWO Steves on the loose.

TWO of them.

The only thing that makes him seem relatively sane is the lack of super abilities but anyone who thinks it’s a reasonable idea to attach a LIVE JET ENGINE ten inches from his asshole is nOT SANE.

do you ever think about how perfectly steve, bucky, and sam typify the 3 big wars america’s fought in over the past century?

steve is the soldier who fought in world war 2. he’s the tail end of the glory and honor of war. his reasons for fighting are clear cut, moral, as far as he can tell. but the weapons used are too deadly, too fatal for glory and honor, really. there’s the attempt to treat enemy combatants with respect, with honor, all while killing them quick than has ever been possible before. there’s the unease of the shift from the old style of fighting to the new. there’s the tiredness that only comes from a second global war in only two decades. there’s the closure that comes from unprecedented total destruction. the thought of “maybe now we can go home. maybe now we can build lives like our parents, those of us that are left.”

bucky is the soldier who fought in vietnam. he’s the one that couldn’t dodge the draft, that couldn’t evade the fight no matter how hard he tried. he’s the one who followed the orders he had to, and rebelled against all the others. his uniform was askew, more civvies than not. he didn’t look a soldier, and he didn’t fight like one either. he didn’t know why he was fighting, who he was fighting. he saw too many innocents die by the hands of his comrades, of himself. he felt agent orange burn his lungs, saw orphans crying in the streets. he came home, the rat-a-tat of machine guns echoing in his ears, always. he disembarked a plane, and was spat on by anti-war protesters. he couldn’t even be angry– he agreed with them. he participated in the winter soldier investigations, confessed what he’d been forced to do, and that almost abated the weight on his shoulders. almost.

sam is the soldier who fought in afghanistan. the modern soldier, with just as much shit as the rest of them. the difference is, where steve was greeted with celebrations and bucky was greeted with vitriol, sam is overlooked, forgotten. he suffers in silence, expected to endure without protest. sam copes, but not all vets are able to do the same. afghan war vets are the ones who take their own lives in droves, the unacknowledged, unknown aftershocks from an invasion founded on half-formed ambitions from men in suits who’d never have to bear the real burden. sam is the modern day vet, unknown, unseen, unthanked.

No wonder they’re all Captain America

So is Nat the Cold War? People don’t see a soldier when they look at her, because she really isn’t, just like the cold war was never really a “war”. Nat is the spy on the run, the power never fully unleashed, the constant sense of fear that there is no backing down, no running– there are no vets of the cold war, but there are always the living casualties.

nailed it

Steve + being worried about his girls

okay but in all seriousness i bet it’s a real hazard to cry or even sit on your bed looking unhappy at Avengers Tower because Steve “Mom At The Ready” Rogers WILL appear in your doorway wearing something soft and saying “Hey.” in a gentle, compassionate voice

“Knock knock,” Steve Rogers probably says aloud, tapping the doorjamb softly with his knuckles and gazing at you with warm maternal tenderness. How will you explain to him that you are sad because of a tumblr post about a dog who delivers the mail

WHO TEXTS CAPTAIN AMERICA TO TELL HIM HIS ONE TRUE LOVE DIED?!!

(Seriously. So many. Ridiculous. Decisions. In this. Film. UGH.)

I just realized……Hydra knew super-soldiers could survive despite being cryogenically frozen, because they did it to the Winter Soldier.
So they knew for certain that Captain America was alive after he crashed the plane in the Arctic.

I find the timing of Cap’s find very suspicious.

I personally believe Obadiah Stane was somewhat affiliated with Hydra (and had them send the Winter Soldier to have Howard killed). And he could easily influence where Howard searched for Steve and the plane.

I believe that Obadiah misdirected Howard intentionally whenever it looled like he was close, bc Hydra didn’t want Captain America back.
It was only when Obadiah died that SHIELD found Cap.

Holy shit…

may I direct you to this gifset I made a long ass time ago with Obie and Alex talking bad shit
