how did jk manage to write ootp and not come to the conclusion that the only career w any true meaning for harry james potter was as a goddamn professor at hogwarts like how do u write the da scenes and say “nah he’d want to be a wizard cop”

#ONCE EVERY YEAR HE GIVES A GUEST LECTUREFOR HISTORY OF MAGIC WHERE HE TALKS ABOUT THE WAR#AND IT’S SO HARD#BUT HE KNOWS HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO BE OPEN AND HONEST ABOUT WHAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED WITH THESE KIDS (via @greenfaeriefly)

no but this is especially true when you consider how in the seventh book Harry used expelliarmus on Stan shunpike and all his adult auror friends thought that was a foolish move. honestly the kid has always been better at defensive magic– I can’t think of many times that he used offensive magic without feeling guilty about it– and is so reluctant to actually hurt people who might have a bit of good in them that it’s actually hard to imagine him tracking down and detaining “dark wizards”. but so incredibly easy to imagine him teaching kids how to protect themselves and stay safe
this also would have been a much MUCH better full-circle ending of the harry/voldemort parallels, since voldemort wanted nothing more than to be the DADA professor in large part because Hogwarts was the only home he ever knew, and then he was the one who cursed the job so that no one else could have it. harry feels the same way about Hogwarts, he canonically says he feels a sort of perverse kinship with voldemort because of it, and his defeat of voldemort means he’s the one who broke the curse so it would be fantastically cyclical if he was also the one who took over the position afterwards WHY DIDN’T THIS HAPPEN
