leia and shara were together and they broke up because they wanted different things in life but were able to stay friends and poe didn’t know until he was already in the resistance and like he had to come to terms with the fact that leia fucked his mom and could have been his second mom for real and that’s the real friction between them
there’s like always been this strange thing between kes and leia that poe started picking up on as he got older and the three of them were having dinner together when kes visited the resistance base and he finally asked if there was something between him and he’s really good about it like he’s always had a problem with shutting up so he starts saying like he knows it’s been a long time and it doesn’t change how much kes loves his mom and like really out of everyone leia is amazing and he’s still going when kes bursts out laughing and leia’s laughing quietly too like she can’t hold onto it and he finally shuts up and kes just says leia dated your mother before i met her
poe doesn’t leave because he loves both of them very much but he also only makes eye contact with leia maybe once and as soon as he’s done eating he goes to finn’s room and lays down w his head in finn’s lap without saying anything and after a full minute of silence he just says the general fucked my mom
after finn stops laughing and he tells finn what he knows they get past their shock and he realizes that like it makes a lot of sense and leia’s always cared so much about shara and like even when he was young he could see how much shara cared about leia too
they still give each other a lot of space for a couple days (really it’s half because they’re like in a war) but at the end of the day poe finds leia and asks if they can have dinner and leia smiles and says of course and it’s stilted at first and leia waits for poe to initiate the conversation and after a few minutes poe looks at her and just says you loved each other and leia puts her hand over his and says very much and they smile at each other and poe quietly asks her to tell him about his mom and she tells him all these stories that were always off limits before and they spend hours there talking about the woman they both love
