And if you’re afraid of the power Trump already wields, hear this: if we don’t show up in the midterms, the Republicans could get a supermajority in the Senate. That means no ability to filibuster. No recourse. No way to stop them.

We’ve got to make sure the blue states stay blue and try to turn some of those red states blue as well. Don’t count your state out just because it usually votes Republican. Historically, midterms have way lower turnouts than presidential election years. So lets actually show up this time and do some damage.

Oh, and one hopeful note, all the House seats are up for reelection. So let’s take that shit away from Donald Trump and his Republican Party.

Also, remember to vote in local elections! Keep track of when they are, the candidates, and make sure you stay informed on local and state politics. We have to show up in 2018, and at every. Single. Thing.

I dont like adding things but this needs to be said: DO NOT ASSUME THAT THERE WILL BE A HIGH DEMOCRATIC TURNOUT. Do not think that “oh EVERYONE else will show up to vote, I dont have to” Do not do that. Because trust me you wouldn’t be the only person thinking that. Now, if everyone assumes it’ll be a high turn out so they dont go, then nobody goes. Assume always that your vote will be the tipping point, assume that your vote is necessary and needed (because guess what: it absolutely is). Go vote. Keep track of the dates. And just go do it.

Register to vote. Check that you’re registered even if you think you are, even if you (like me) have voted in every election since you were old enough to do so. And then do it.

If you can, volunteer to drive people to the polls.

Re: luciferissatan’s comment – 100% correct – even more correct is that midterms’ low voter turnout? Is because Dems skip the midterms. More Republicans go to the polls for midterm elections, historically, than Democrats.

IF YOU STAY HOME, REPUBLICANS WILL WIN. END OF.

VOTE! Local elections are SUPER IMPORTANT! VOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOTE!

reminder: fans of harry potter who are speaking out against jk rowling and by extension johnny depp aren’t them saying they hate the harry potter universe. they’re saying that they won’t let their love of fiction distract them from the very real wrongs done by the creator of that fiction and an actor in that fiction. the reason fans of harry potter are saying not to support fantastic beasts isn’t because we don’t care about that universe and its characters, it’s because rowling and depp are heavily profiting off of it and some of us aren’t interested in giving our money to an abuser and an abuser apologist. we know we aren’t gonna make them go bankrupt lmao, but we can at least try and prevent them from getting more of our money.

and those who are done with rowling have every right to be. she has a long history of queer-baiting, antisemitism, terf idealology, and now she is an abuse apologist. as i’ve said, she has also done very good things for her community and for countless charities, but someone doing good things cannot then give them a free pass to do bad things regardless of how “small” you think those bad things are. the only thing that can come close to fixing bad things is at the very least an apology, but rowling rarely makes genuine apologies and is known to block people who call her out.

the people who love harry potter and its world and are still calling out rowling and depp aren’t then saying they don’t care about that universe, they’re saying that the real world and the wrongs done by people in it are more pressing than a fiction about a boy wizard.

Friendly reminder that Vincent van Gogh willingly checked himself into an asylum so that he could get better, resulting in him creating some of the most iconic paintings of his entire career, done in the asylum, when he was being treated 24/7, because he finally didn’t have to struggle with his demons and could instead focus on his muse, WHICH WERE TWO DIFFERENT THINGS!

Remember this little insignificant painting?

How about this one?

Check this one out:

All of these and more were painted in the asylum when he was receiving treatment for his mental illnesses and I know I just said that but I said it again and I’m saying it a third time until you dramatic abled assholes understand!

VINCENT VAN GOGH

- KNEW THAT HE WAS MENTALLY ILL

- WANTED TO CHANGE THAT

- WENT TO AN ASYLUM

- GOT THE HELP HE NEEDED

- PAINTED SOME ICONIC MASTERPIECES AS A RESULT!

SO DON’T YOU DARE COME OUT HERE WITH THIS, “I WISH I WAS DEPRESSED SO I COULD BE AS CREATIVE AS VAN GOGH” BULLSHIT BECAUSE EVEN HE KNEW THAT HIS DEMONS WERE HARMING HIS WORK, AND MORE IMPORTANTLY, HIS HEALTH, AND HE DID EVERYTHING WITHIN HIS POWER TO FIGHT THEM EVERY SINGLE DAY OF HIS LIFE, UNTIL THEY ENDED UP WINNING!

This is also incredibly important for any creative persons dealing with mental illness, and their parents.

Receiving mental help improves your craft, not hurt it. Before getting put on medication for the first time to treat my mental illnesses, my mom expressed to me how she’s worried about my getting treatment because of my art. Regardless, your mental health should be more important anyway, but, honestly, it’s a lot harder to produce good art when you struggle getting out of bed, let alone creating masterpieces. When you’re in more health, improving your craft comes much easier!

Personally I think the most beautifull painting of him was this one:

He made it when he heard about the birth of his nephew who was named after him. Still in the asylum but really happy for his brother!“How glad I was when the news came… I should have greatly preferred
him to call the boy after Father, of whom I have been thinking so much
these days, instead of after me; but seeing it has now been done, I
started right away to make a picture for him, to hang in their bedroom,
big branches of white almond blossom against a blue sky.”

Oh I have sucb rants about how “good” art comes while suffering.

No.

look at me.

The idea of the “suffering artist” comes from bunch of alcholic, drug abusing, womanizers trying to justify their bad life choices as some sort of artistic angst.

IT IS 100% BULLSHIT

Take your meds, get your therapy, be happy, and live life

The art will be there.

Kill the myth that artists must suffer.

NATASHA (in ASL): What the hell are you doing there?

CLINT (in mime): I was looking for you! NAT (in ASL): Why?

CLINT (in mime): I was on the internet... um... octopus?

CLINT (in mime): Acid rain? Raining puppies??

NAT: *non of complete confusion*

CLINT: *EXCITED GESTURES??*

FURY: This is the worst game of charades I have ever been forced to watch - BARTON, YOU KNOW ASL! USE YOUR WORDS.

alstonwiggles:

Natasha’s mission: To spy on Fury and the KGB agent he’s captured and been interrogating.

Clint’s mission: To mime out the entirety of the viral “octopus&puppy r 2 cute 4 words” video he found during lunch.

I’ve wanted an excuse to draw Catherine Tate’s ridiculous faces for ages, and finally did it with Clint. I didn’t even BEGIN to do Tate justice, but it was a barrel of fun, so have a Doctor Who reference~

Reminder that 720,000 people were forcibly displaced from their homes for the 1988 winter Olympics in Seoul and there’s no telling how many will be displaced in Pyeongchang this year. 30,000 were displaced in Atlanta in 1996. Estimates of those displaced during the Rio games range from 70,000-90,000 and Beijing forced 1.5 to 2 million people from their homes in 2008. The 2004 Athens Olympics ended up costing Greece the equivalent of 5% of its GDP and probably caused the debt crisis they’re suffering from. All of this to be left with empty stadiums where public housing once stood, a massive tax burden that will destroy social programs for decades to come, and a brutally repressive police state in the host city for the duration of the games and their preparation.

Abolish the Olympics

Don’t even abolish them, just stick them in one place and LEAVE THEM THERE. Send them back to Athens and make all the nations who participate contribute towards the ongoing costs, which won’t be as bad because you won’t be rebuilding everything from the ground up every four years. The Olympics bring joy to lots of folks, it’s just this stupid one-upping each other and making things needlessly expensive and tearing up perfectly good cities to build stadia that we then abandon that is ridiculous.
