Just as there is in the muggle world, there are drugs in the wixen world people might lose themselves to. While not all are immediately or permanently harmful, there is still harm linked to most of them, and as such it is important to be aware of the magical drugs in existence, and their properties.

Known magical drugs:

Elixir of Euphoria - also called “Euphie”. Produces a blissful feeling, and has few side effects, unless it is improperly made. When badly made can create a giddy feeling, and lead to mischievousness, which can use harm if too excessive.

Heqet Frog Fluid - street name “Maenad”. Causes emotion switching, especially when powdered and added to sugary drinks. Overuse can lead to bithermia where the temperature fluctuations lead to death.

Fairy Dust - Two variants. Both made with calming draught as a base, which is then powdered. It can then be mixed with either the mundane plant salvia divinorum to provide intense hallucinations, or with Elixir of Euphoria to create a calming soporific effect, stronger and longer lasting than normal Euphies. The variant with Salvia is often called ”Wilde Dust”, while the one with Elixir of Euphoria is more commonly called ”EuphieX”.

Androkstisiai Pollen - also called “Blake’s Ecstasy”. By hybridising the Flutterby Bush with the mundane Datura, Androkstisiai was created. It’s pollen can, when snorted, give people incredibly realistic, and apocalyptically bad trips, which they nonetheless crave.

Gillyweed - Some varieties of Gillyweed can be dried and smoked, which produces a soothing and non-addictive high. While this is generally not advised due to the effects it can have on individuals lungs, many wixes still do, which has lead to such magazine voting options as “Best album to smoke gillyweed to”. There are certain combinations of Gillyweed where cigarettes of it are combined with other things, which can be more dangerous.

Laelaps - The name of a curious mixture of powdered Draught of Invigoration and the Golden Honeyweb pop-rocks, when snorted this gives people a feeling of intense wakefulness and rushing.

Plum Pit - The pits of the Dirigible Plum fruit can be used in some Euphoria Elixirs, as well as in some hallucinatory potions, though the high from these is mild, and not worth the effort of plucking, catching and preparing the fruit. Some people do like to use the pits, once ground down, in food such as brownies.

Nerve Restoration Pills - Made by powdering the spines of Urchin Fungus and then soaking them in the venom and a few other ingredients (most usually dittany and murtlap essence) these pills are used to treat magically caused nerve-damage. However when consumed by someone with no nerve damage they can induce heightened sensitivity, which has made them popular for use during sex and similar, which has led to their street name of “Khnum On”.

Bat Tea - Street name “Batty”. Made from the concentrated saliva of the Dream Spitter, this drug causes vivid hallucinations, as well as lucid dreaming should one fall asleep. However it can often be hard to tell the difference between what was witnessed waking or sleeping, as well as some blurring between the real and hallucinated.

Alchemical Synaesthesia Arcana - Street name “Black Magic”, earned after the Nott family discovered the Black family’s use of this drug to make those political opponents they disliked considered unsuitable for office. The careful application of their Seidr magic was used to make the then-head of the Black family use the drug on themself. The drug itself is a complex alchemical compound which plays with the neurotransmitters for magic, hooking them up to other things in a similar manner to synaesthesia. It causes those who take it to lose control of their magic for a while, while it reacts to a completely different set of stimuli - touch, magic in the area, sound, smells, heart rate - and thus does not respond to conscious thought. When taken recreationally it is regularly taken with other drugs as otherwise the person feels stone cold sober.

GloStick - also called “Lumos”, a cross of the glowing Shutterbug, which is, when powdered, used in the fluid required to make magical photos move, and the North American Rainbow Puffer, the creature is quite illegal, as an illegal cross and for its effects, however it is highly popular. Largely harmless the creature is stunned, the drug extracted, formed into glowsticks and sucked on, creating soothing glows, both from the creature’s drug in a stick and eventually in the sweat of the one taking the drug, as well as giving them a mild, soothing high. While some individuals speak of seeing extra colours, or odd patterns, these individuals are in a minority, though many speak of enhanced tactile sensation, finding even the simplest of touches much more enjoyable and interesting than usual. It is not uncommon for people on GloStick to seek to touch one another, often through cuddling.

The lindorm is a creature from Nordic folklore, which has the stupidest name possible. Lind means snake and orm means snake, so it’s called snakesnake. Guess what it looks like.

They tended to curl around everything from treasures, towers or towns guarding whatever they considered valuable inside. If they were just a regular monster a knight or heroic man was needed to defeat it.

BUT sometimes it was a prince who had been cursed, and then a young woman willing to marry it was needed. On their wedding night when the lindorm asked her to remove her dress she’d ask it to shed it’s skin, and when the soft new skin was exposed she’d have to give it a good hard whipping, and when it was sobbing on the floor she’d bathe and cuddle it. This would lift the curse from the lindorm and it would turn into a beautiful prince.

So there you have it, a BDSM snakesnake.

See this is why aftercare is important: curse removal.

One thing I think is useful to conceptualize when thinking about the severity of depression is figuring out what counts as a ‘task’ to your brain

for example, healthy people outlining the tasks they need to do that day might be something like

- class
- work
- homework

if a healthy person is having a low energy day, maybe it becomes

- make breakfast
- go to class
- class
- go to work
- work
- come home from work
- work on an essay
- do 2 readings

a depressed person, on a high energy day will probably see that same day as

- make breakfast
- eat breakfast
- take meds
- shower
- get dressed
- walk to bus
- take bus
… etc

a depressed person, on a low energy day will see that same day as

- wake up
- get out of bed
- walk to bathroom
- use bathroom
- stand back up
- walk to kitchen
- open fridge
- take out juice
- set on counter
- go to cabinet
- reach up arm
- take down glass
- unscrew lid of juice carton
- pour juice
- drink the juice
- finish the juice
…etc

the sort of chronic exhaustion manifests in how each ‘task’ takes a certain amount of energy and when you have depression, what begins to take that amount of energy- and thus, cognitively count as a ‘task’- are smaller and smaller subdivisions of what other people consider tasks.

And the more ‘tasks’ you do, the less energy you have, and the smaller the subdivisions must be to take equivalent amounts of energy. And the longer that “to do” list of tasks is, the more exhausting and overwhelming and hopeless it feels, which creates a feedback loop of dysfunction.

So say our depressed person on a low energy day gets all the way to finishing their glass of juice. They’ve actually gotten through a lot of tasks! They’ve tried really hard.

But to a healthy person, even on a low energy day, that probably looks like not having done anything- not having gotten through any tasks. And when our depressed person is surrounded by healthy people, they will likely internalize that they haven’t done anything, and further that they can’t complete any tasks no matter how hard they try. And that feeds worthlessness and suicidal ideation

That, I think, is why it’s so important to encourage your depressed and chronically low-energy friends when they accomplish tasks, even if they’re operating at a level of subdivision that you don’t recognize. It is an accomplishment to get water and actually drink it for some folks. It is an accomplishment to get to class or to work.

And acknowledging how hard someone is trying and how much energy they’re putting towards accomplishing those tasks can make a huge difference in whether they feel worthless and hopeless or whether they feel like it’s worth it to keep doing what they can.

Out of all the things I’ve received at pride parades, as a Christian, this one is my favorite.

While I’m not religious, maybe some of you might need to hear these things!

I’m not a religious person but I believe that this is beautiful and the people who created this are true Christians.

Like the look on his face. I imagine the conversation with people who weren’t there going something like:

Draco: So then I made a stupid paper bird and charmed it to fly at him with a rude picture drawn inside.

Background Slytherin 1: Wait….paper bird? Like, you folded him a paper crane? And then charmed it to get to him?

Draco: …yeah. It was savage.

Background Slytherin 2: Dunno, mate. That’s some pretty lovely charm work. How’d you get it to him?

Draco: You know… I just sort of…blew on it. Like you do.

Background Slytherin 1: Like, just so we’re clear…You made him an origami note, and sent it to him by blowing him a kiss? That doesn’t seem, you know…really romantic?

Background Slytherin 2: Draco, mate, it’s okay if you like him. We won't–

Draco: YOU’RE MISSING THE POINT THE DRAWING INSIDE WAS REALLY MEAN.
