I get what JKR was trying to do with having Mrs Weasley knit sweaters for everyone for Christmas because they were poor, but the amount of dyed yarn that she would have had to buy to make 7+ brightly colored, thick sweaters in varying size every year would have been so expensive omg
I have the theory that maybe they had a sheep or two, too, but it just isn’t mentioned because of the other theory that Harry is obvious af and it wasn’t important to the narrative. So along with the sweaters being handmade (which obviously makes them special) and monogrammed for each receiver, maybe perhaps the yarn was handspun too. You never know. I like the headcanon at least.
She’s thrifty, she definitely knows how to get inexpensive yarn. Harry never asked about it, so it’s not in the books. People forget it’s ALL in Harry’s POV.
So yeah, they definitely have sheep, like they have chickens. And they possibly also have recieved odd half-balls of yarn also from Arthur’s coworkers. People who know the Weasley would know Molly knits.
Also if you’re unravelling grown-out-of jumpers, there’s at least a little bit of recycling going on.
