Lando was literally being held hostage by the empire one of whom is an EVIL SPACE SORCERER WHO CAN KILL U WITH HIS BRAIN
He did not “Betray” his friend Han he was forced into setting a trap for him because the alternative was him and literally everyone else being murdered by the heavily armed soldiers and the Cyborg Murder Wizard who had invaded and forced him into this fuckery
There’s actually hints that when they first arrive, Lando is subtly trying to urge them to leave with his initial hostility. The Imperials were there the whole time, because Darth Vader is a Sith, and already knew they were coming.
Lando’s actions are a good example of ‘I did what I had to do’ being presented in a non-bullshit way. And I mean, the other heroes never held a grudge or anything for it. Even Han’s back to being his buddy as soon as the cryo-sickness wears off in RotJ.
And it isn’t like his actions gave him any kind of infamy or anything; the Rebels literally made the man a general after seeing that yes, this man is a responsible leader that cares about his charges.
It’s also made pretty damn clear that Lando was already orchestrating with his guards to save Han and Leia once Vader’s attention was elsewhere. The fact that they were a little too slow to save Han was just a backfire, and he then spends the next year working with the others to save Han by helping infiltrate Jabba’s palace.
People who write Lando off as a traitor are obviously watching different films.
Right?
Like there’s a difference between being in a hostage situation and being Vidkun Quisling people
