Tag yourself I’m running about
I KNOW ONE OF THESE THOUGH!
So before alarm clocks, people still had to get up on time for their shifts at the brickmakers, bookbinders, chemist, whatever. But how would you do that without an alarm? Welp, you would pay a Knocker-up. This handy person would have a list of people with times, and he would go around literally knocking on their doors/windows to make sure they woke up in time for work.
So, basically, a human alarm clock.
