Of COURSE John Mulaney is the first male comedian to have a good #MeToo joke.
Ok, see, this is what I’m talking about when I say you can make good jokes about sexual assault.
The only - literally the ONLY - thing is that you have to make fun of the predator rather than the victm.
Really. Is that simple. All you have to do to make good comedy in general is to make fun of systems of oppression and not their victms.
“Oh you people are too sensitive”
No, really. This dude up there just made me laugh about a terrible subject just by changing the focus of the joke. It’s not that hard, you’re just bad at it.
Reblogging for “It’s not that hard, you’re just bad at it.”
Seriously, it’s how comedy works. It’s why millionaire comedians go up on stage and talk about what a mess and slob of a human being they are when their net worth is more than what 95% of their audience will make in their life.
Comedy comes from not being in a place of power. It’s why your favorite comedians go on stage and insult themselves, and why it’s funny in the first place. That comment about good comedy and ‘make fun of the systems of oppression and not their victims’ is textbook human psychology when it comes to humor.
It’s not that hard, you’re just bad at it.
also John Mulaney’s wife saying “What the hell did you do?” instead of “did someone accuse you of something?” I love her she is Good perhaps he even deserves her
