This is such a small step but seeing it in the store today honestly made my day. We still have a long way to go but these little things make me smile.

I work at a greeting card shop, a mom-and-pop (but really single mom shop) kind of place and I have to add to this! 

Companies have just started to make wedding cards featuring same-sex couples in the last two years. This year for the first time a major distributor made same sex Valentines Day cards! I was over the moon!  

This is from Papyrus! They are a great card company that you can get at loads of stores like Target. 

BUT THEIR WEDDING ONES ARE BRAND NEW AND AWESOME. 

See that matching set of ties? That was our best selling wedding card about four to six months after marriage equality became legal in our state! Do you know how many nervous old women I had to help pick out a same-sex card? LIKE SO MANY. 

I had a man in his 90′s who was super nervous even ask me (quote), “I don’t mean to be offensive I just don’t know the word for a girl who likes girls and I don’t know what card to get my great niece.” And I was like, “The word is lesbian, you aren’t being at all offensive, and this card here will be perfect.” BEST DAY OF MY WORKING LIFE OKAY. 

Meri-Meri cards also have great same sex cards!! The Mr. and Mr. banner is also one of our best selling wedding cards!

anyway, one thing that has always been weird for me is Eomer giving Hasufel and Arod to random strangers, just like that.  Just giving them away, two horses, to a trio of foreign travelers he just met and had suspected of being spies.

like.  what?  This is Rohan.  Horses are the thing you value above all else, I don’t care if their riders are dead, even if their riders don’t have actual heirs somewhere to whom ownership would pass (or Rohirric inheritance law works differently and ownership has somehow defaulted to their éored’s commander, IDK), you’re still a calvary force planning to see a lot more battle in the near future, chances are high you’re going to end up with horseless riders who’ll need them.

this time I actually processed the fact, though, that Eomer believes they’ve inadvertantly killed two innocents, prisoners of the orcs, the beloved companions of these travelers.

The horses aren’t a gift.  They’re weregild.

can I just say as a brief aside how much I love Hux. He looks like the deranged personification of the most unhinged British foreign policy choices circa 1890. Like, I think I’ve said this before, but I can’t overstate it enough: I think people don’t give enough credit to the combination of the people who did the casting, and Domhnall Gleeson, because there was no actor on this green Earth who was going to so flawlessly, cuttingly, razor-sharply spot-on eviscerate that particular extremely British stereotype as a ginger with a green passport and a bunch of silent letters in his name, you know?

Ain’t nobody hates the British like an Irishman. He did fucking research, and brought every ounce of frothing-at-the-mouth nuance a single human could channel, born of hundreds of years of hate and persecution and bloody oppression, cranked that shit up to eleven, and broke off the knob.

(Oh I hadn’t known that Oswald Mosley was Anglo-Irish. Well shit, that makes it personal, no fucking wonder Gleeson had such a fucking field day.)

That was genius born of centuries-long rage.

People normally call Hux a ‘Space Nazi’, but I love this post for identifying the British Imperial influence which is just as present. It serves as a wonderful reminder that British Imperialism was actually not far removed from Nazi ideology. There were British fascist sympathisers, including members of the royal family. Britain went down on the ‘right side’ of history by ultimately fighting Hitler, but… they were actually basically evil, and did a fuckton of damage in the world. Just ask Ireland!
