Honestly, the Technical Boy is the least believable part of American Gods for me. I can’t imagine that in 2017 there would merely be a god of the Internet. We should have a whole friggin’ pantheon by now.
I know he’s given the epithet “god of the internet,” but I always figured he was representative of technology in general, how people are willing to queue up and wait hours in bad weather for the latest and greatest version of whatever. iPhones, gaming consoles, VR, every new thing, always changing. I wonder if a god of just the internet would take worship like how in ancient Greece different temples worshiped different aspects of the same god. Tumblr, Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter, Buzzfeed… all aspects of the same…
The god of clickbait would ask only for our attention, not (thankfully) our love.
