Think of it this way:
When I say I’m pro-divorce, that doesn’t mean I want your marriage to fail. It means that sometimes divorce is the right choice.
That’s what I mean when I say I’m pro-abortion.
To expand on this a bit more:
When you get married, you’re obviously hoping that it doesn’t end in divorce. But sometimes it does. Sometimes a divorce is necessary.
When you have sex, you’re obviously not hoping for an unintended pregnancy. But sometimes it happens. Sometimes ending that pregnancy is a necessary choice.
For some people in bad marriages, divorce is not a choice they feel comfortable with making for themselves.
For some people who have an unintended pregnancy, abortion is not a choice they feel is right for them.
Sometimes people are forced or sold into marriages, sometimes as children, and being free of them, through divorce, is a way out of a toxic, abusive situation.
Sometimes rape results in pregnancy. Sometimes the rape of an 11 year old child results in pregnancy. Sometimes abortion means you are not forced to carry your rapist’s child.
Sometimes a divorce is sad. Sometimes it’s liberating. Sometimes it’s life-saving. Sometimes it’s not what you want.
The same is true for abortion.
Regardless, the choice must always be available and accessable.
