Yo, gonna do a thing here for a second. I don’t talk about my brain much, except for the lack of it some days, but here’s where I mention Generalized Anxiety Disorder, comorbid with depression, SSRIs, bla ba dee bla. You know the drill. But! Even though I’ve been very lucky to find a meds regimen that works very well, there are days when even the chemicals can’t help the buzzing discontinuity / itchy under the skin / gotta move-can’t move ‘my brain wants to kill me’ moments.

That’s where this comes in. I’ve done yoga on and off for a few years (a lot more ‘off’ and 'falling over’ than 'on,’ honestly). I went prowling on youtube for another class that wasn’t all 'bust your booty for sexyness’ or 'releeeease your inner goddess faiiiiiiry’ (which works for some, but I’m not so much a goddess as a Goo Ball on the best of days).

And then I found Yoga With Adriene  - no joking, she is the best yogini I’ve found so far, as far as relieving anxiety through practice. Even her 'core buster’ classes are thick with reminders for body-breath mindfulness, and physical grounding in the earth. (She’s also hella cute and ridiculous, which doesn’t hurt any.)

This one - Yoga for Stress Relief - is a 40-minute class that is purely about letting go, and giving you permission to breathe and relax. It’s brilliance on buzzy-brain days, even if I only do five minutes worth of breathing practice. ('who needs to practice breathing’? say the neurochemically typical… hah! say I. You don’t even know.)

I also love this one - Yoga for Beginners - for the practice in connection with the earth and body foundations.

Bookmark them, click on a video and make fun of my crush on a Texan yoga teacher, or hang out on a video and do whatever exercises inspire you.

You have permission to take time to take care of you.
