Spiritassassin Week 2017, Prompt 6: Soulmate/soulbond

(The trash fic will do. I am so tired.)

Baze knows when it happens. He can’t say how or why or what, but he knows that something has happened, something bad, something to Chirrut. It laps at him, pulls at him across the expanse of the universe, across the expanse of the Force, which he has slowly tried to press himself into forgetting, into giving up on because what’s the sense of it if it won’t help? It just sits back and exists and lets things, terrible, horrible awful things–that can’t be denied because he felt the deaths of the Jedi in his soul, a ringing in his mind, a hollow space in his chest that feels as though it can never be filled again–happen. He can’t stand for a power like that, a Force like that. It isn’t right, no matter what they were taught, so Baze started closing doors, locking his mind, hiding his soul, covering himself in armor and death, chose a gun over a staff, painted himself as another kind of man altogether to fool anyone who looked at him, to fool even himself in rare moments, and left the holy city that bore and raised him. Ran away into space as if the Force and its tendrils weren’t already everywhere, but the distance from Jedha helped him forget.

Beautiful. I want to live in Sara’s Baze-voice forever.

Useful if this is how you think, though often I don’t see the outline until after the draft is written, because after awhile one just internalize this kind of stuff from all the media one ingests. Point is, use if helpful, ignore if not.

This is EXACTLY how many shows on television plot their episodes, though it’s usually through a five act timeline:

1) Introduction to the characters and the mission/adventure.

2) Mission begins. Protagonist establishes cursory allies and foes. Some sort of complication to the plot at the end of Act II.

3) Protagonist and friends deal with complication of the plot. Gears up for another go at the goal, but falls short in some way, usually related to protagonist’s personal journey.

4) Critical information needed for climax is discovered. Protagonist angsts, then rallies.

5) The lead up to and the final resolution.

Because studios sometimes require a 6 act break for extra advertising, the last coda is usually related to season arc/character development. But generally speaking, this is the structure a lot of screenwriters use.

Three things that are true:

Anything you don’t create deliberately you create inadvertently.

Things you create inadvertently tend to be the first idea your brain reaches for.

Your first idea is almost never your best idea, because it will inevitably be influenced by the last thing you read or saw, or will clichéd and obvious. That’s how your brain gets warmed up to a problem; it reviews common solutions first.

One of my biggest revelations was that writing is both the act of constructing beautiful sentences AS WELL AS the act of being imaginative, of thinking up characters and story and knitting them together in a clever way. We are so blinded by the romance of the act of sentence construction that we forget that the imaginative part should get our time and attention too. You can call it “planning” or “outlining” or whatever. I call it dreaming.

Make time for your imagination to produce the best story it can.

If you want to cosplay as a DC Comics Bombshell at the next comicon you now have patterns from Simplicity to make things a bit easier.

Pattern sizes go up to 22. There are also patterns for traditional costumes for Batgirl, Supergirl and Wonder Woman although I am surprised there isn’t one for the “Batgirl of Burnside”.

Edit 4/09/15 – seems not everyone can see ALL of the pages of the comic. If you can’t see the whole thing, go ahead and give it a read on my website! Thanks for reading!

and here it is.

my 24 hour comic

took 22 hours. and then a little longer for some edits but. I’ve still got another hour till my 24 is officially up, and I’m definitely gonna be snoozing.

For having no planning except a selkie design and a rough concept of the girl, I think I did alright. I definitely pushed my self to try new things and, I’m happy about that. there are some things I’d like to tweak but… NOPE! IM DONE!

I also learned how much I can get done when I don’t distract myself so much. have to figure out how to rein that in haha.

also, if you’re curious about the title! fun fact time thanks to wikipedia (so it may or may not be true)

Selkies (also known as silkies or selchies) are mythological creatures found in Faroese, Icelandic,[1] Irish,[2] and Scottish folklore. The word derives from earlier Scots selich, (from Old English seolh meaning seal)

lmao😂/smh🙄

Eli Bosnick had the best response to this ridiculousness.

“If I gave you a bowl of skittles and three of them were poison would you still eat them?”

“Are the other skittles human lives?”

“What?”

“Like. Is there a good chance. A really good chance. I would be saving someone from a war zone and probably their life if I ate a skittle?”

“Well sure. But the point-”

“I would eat the skittles.”

“Ok-well the point is-”

“I would GORGE myself on skittles. I would eat every single fucking skittle I could find. I would STUFF myself with skittles. And when I found the poison skittle and died I would make sure to leave behind a legacy of children and of friends who also ate skittle after skittle until there were no skittles to be eaten. And each person who found the poison skittle we would weep for. We would weep for their loss, for their sacrifice, and for the fact that they did not let themselves succumb to fear but made the world a better place by eating skittles.

Because your REAL question…the one you hid behind a shitty little inaccurate, insensitive, dehumanizing racist little candy metaphor is, IS MY LIFE MORE IMPORTANT THAN THOUSANDS UPON THOUSANDS OF MEN, WOMEN, AND TERRIFIED CHILDREN…

… and what kind of monster would think the answer to that question… is yes?”
