oh my god im laughing because apparently so many people not familiar with the british education system think that the whole school houses thing was a made up thing in harry potter?? like no we actually have those

Ours were named after local Welsh rivers. I was in Hafren, which is the killy one.

Ours were called “Eilian, Elidir, Eryri and Gwyrfai,” so now that I think about it, I haven’t the foggiest idea what the theme was for that.

I was Eilian, in any case.  People used to call us “the clever house” to make us feel better for always losing the sports events.

I was in Maelog and both my siblings were in Crigyll, but it was never really relevant until Sports Day when I’d KICK CRIGYLL’S ASS

I was in Raglan because ours were named after famous Welsh castles and we always beat Conwy because they were wimpy losers and Conwy is a shit castle anyway probably and also my twin sister was in Conwy. Posers.

can a trustworthy brit confirm or deny this i feel like im being hornswoggled

Hello I am a trustworthy Brit who just confirmed this

You are welc

omg …
i’m in Aus and we don’t have houses but we have colours or gemstones (?? yeah idk) I was in diamond when i was a kid we sucked at everything

Nah we do have them in Australia. I can’t remember what they where in primary school but in high school they were stanly, scot, weinsmith and Gleason.

Also Australian, and can confirm that we often (but not always) have school houses. In my primary school, there were two - Scott and Kendall - and in my high school, there were four: Araluen, Corrumben, Narrara and Warrigal.

Private school in Edinburgh and we had four houses:

Lauriston (green)

Greyfriars (white)

Raeburn (red)

Castle (blue)

my two cents about pornhub trying getting a bunch of good publicity lately by plowing roads, posting a sex ed page, & disabling “straight” porn on women’s day:

y’all should spend less time making jokes about pornhub and more time supporting sex workers politically, socially & financially for their work instead of supporting a site that profits off devaluing their labor

yeah if you can, buy porn from sex workers. If you really can’t afford anything or don’t want to, try streaming sites (where you can give camgirls extra viewers as payment) like myfreecams, etc (or perhaps other sites that allow trans women <.<)

Didn’t pornhub just give out like student grants or something to sex workers

Isn’t every single video on pornhub stolen work from sex workers, uploaded without their consent, and from which they make $0.00?

#the answer is yes #stealing work and then paying back literally nothing to a select few is literally evil?

MindGeek is destroying the porn industry like its.. a big problemhttp://ift.tt/1jVvENphttp://ift.tt/1uLXWb8

I’m thoroughly convinced this has so little notes because people would rather giggle about how “chaotic good” pornhub is and keep using it instead of offering up the fact that they are stealing from people who can’t afford to be stolen from.

I can’t afford to spend money on porn so I end up trawling tumblr for the odd gem.

If anyone has ethical porn sites out there to recommend, I am ALL vagina ears

misstransatlantic:

“When I started my musical career, I was a maid,” she told the audience. “I used to clean houses. My parents, my mother was a proud janitor. My stepfather, who raised me like his very own, worked at the post office and my father was a trash man — they all wore uniforms. And that’s why I stand here today in my black and white and I wear my uniform to honor them.”

Okay, this whole conversation is frustrating.  I’m more obsessed with Janelle Monae than almost anyone I personally know, I’ve been a fan of hers for years and years. And she 100% deserves credit for wearing suits ever since the beginning of her musical career. Janelle Monae is badass. I love her, I love her suits. Big Janelle Monae crush, here.

But you know who else has been wearing suits throughout her career? Evan Rachel Wood. I’ve admired many of her suits over the years. Evan’s suit at the Golden Globes was drool-worthy for me. And it just adds to a long line of badass women who often wear suits. Evan never framed wearing this suit as though she was the first woman to do it or as though it was the first time she had done it. Some of these entertainment news sites wrote about it as though this were some new thing, which is of course totally nonsense, many many women have rocked suits throughout history for a variety of reasons.

You can call out the media for going wild when a conventionally attractive white woman does it, absolutely.  And I think there is a real argument to be made there. (Obviously the person who wrote “Name someone more iconic” is shamefully out of the loop here). But there is still power in any woman that choses to go against the gendered expectations for her.

Evan Rachel Wood is bisexual, and she has been an outspoken advocate for queer people.  Her closing to wear a suit is in many ways an open manifestation of her queer identity. As a bisexual woman myself, I appreciate her bravery in choosing to express herself in that way. I also appreciate Janelle Monae’s consistent outspokenness and bravery. Same for all the other women who resist conventional gender expectations.

Besides, if you go to twitter, you can see Janelle Monae and Evan Rachel Wood (as well as other often suited women) all praising each other for their badass suit wearing and just being generally awesome.  Women who have each other’s backs. This isn’t a competition.

And besides, if we want to play a game of ‘who wore it first’….

(Probably not Katherine Hepburn. I just wanted an excuse to post this damned fine picture, and point out that women have been wearing suits for a Really Long Time.)

(also reblogging for @dustintheink’s fabulous commentary.
